TIRANA, August 7 – Cërrik and Maliq municipalities have started public consultations on the new territorial map. The proposal would reduce the number of municipalities in Albania from 61 to 46.
Cërrik Municipality said it launched the process after receiving a notification from Parliament. The consultation period on the draft administrative-territorial reform law will last 60 days. The municipality invited citizens to share their opinions. It stressed that the process concerns the future of communities and the quality of public services.
The consultations will focus on economic development, investments, representation in decision-making, public fund distribution and local government powers. These issues would become important if the administrative map changes.
Meanwhile, Maliq Municipal Council has published the schedule for public consultations on the draft law “On the administrative-territorial division of local government units in the Republic of Albania”. Under the proposal, Maliq Municipality would merge with Korça Municipality.
The meetings will take place from August 13 to 19. Citizens can attend consultations in Libonik, Pojan, Pirg, Vreshtas, Gora and Moglica administrative units. The process will also include the city of Maliq.
Maliq Municipal Council invited citizens, institutions, businesses and interest groups to participate. It asked them to submit opinions and suggestions to support transparent and inclusive decision-making.
