Queen Geraldine maternity hospital reopens after full transformation

TIRANA, June 29 – The Queen Geraldine maternity hospital has reopened after a full renovation that modernised one of Albania’s leading healthcare institutions for women and newborns. The investment introduced modern facilities, advanced technology and improved working conditions for medical staff. The hospital treats more than 20,000 patients each year and now has expanded infrastructure to provide specialised and personalised healthcare for women at every stage of life.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Edi Rama attended the inauguration alongside Health Minister Evis Sala. He said the project marks another step in modernising the healthcare system while preserving the building’s cultural heritage. In addition, he said the government has improved healthcare services over the past decade. He pointed to better hygiene standards and fewer post-operative infections than in previous years. He also praised doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers for serving patients under heavy workloads.

At the same time, Rama said Albania’s healthcare system performs about 100,000 surgical procedures each year. He said around 65,000 to 70,000 take place in operating theatres, while another 25,000 to 30,000 involve microsurgery. Finally, he said the government will continue raising salaries for doctors and nurses. He added that it will also improve the welfare of their families and continue efforts to strengthen the healthcare system.
