Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania remains on track with its European Union accession negotiations and continues to follow the timetable agreed with the European Commission.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Ireland’s Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, Thomas Byrne, and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos after the ninth Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference, Rama said Albania has met its commitments through sustained reforms.
So far, Albania has remained on schedule with the ambitious roadmap agreed with the European Commission, Rama said.
Furthermore, he stressed that the negotiation process is becoming more demanding and requires continuous effort.
“We must keep working harder and never stop,” Rama said.
Meanwhile, Rama emphasized that maintaining the current positive atmosphere with EU institutions will help Albania continue making progress.
“If the current atmosphere continues, we will keep meeting our obligations. So far, we have no reason to expect a change,” he said.
In addition, Rama referred to the Coalition of the Willing meeting in Paris and said countries engaged in active accession talks share the same goal of accelerating the enlargement process.
He added that European partners are committed to finding faster ways to advance the negotiations.
Finally, Rama expressed confidence in Albania’s European future and praised Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
He said Ireland has demonstrated that rapid progress is possible through excellence and added that Albania trusts its Irish partners, the European Commission and the European Union institutions.
