Rama: Albania to complete EU accession talks by 2027

Prime Minister and Socialist Party leader Edi Rama said today that Albania aims to finish negotiations with the European Commission by 2027 and join the European Union by 2030.

At a Socialist Party Assembly in Lezhë, Rama explained: “When I said we would complete negotiations by 2027, many thought it was unrealistic. But it wasn’t a personal claim. It is an agreement with the European Commission, with a detailed work plan.”

He described the process: “The first level is the European Commission in Brussels. Experts assign technical tasks to candidate countries. Then the 27 member states review progress. Even one ‘no’ can block accession.”

Rama highlighted Albania’s achievements: “We opened all negotiation chapters in record time. This came from our work and the EU’s willingness. Today, we have respect and trust that we never had before.”

He stressed urgency: “The EU door is open, but it won’t stay open forever. We must enter while we have this moment.”
