Rama Announces Stronger Support for Farmers in Albania

Edi Rama announced increased financial support for farmers, introducing a new scheme that could reach up to 55 million euros depending on invoicing levels.

Speaking at the Socialist Party Assembly in Elbasan, he said the government has replaced the former 18-million-euro fuel subsidy with a new system that rewards farmers who issue invoices.

Under the new model, farmers will receive 10% of the value of their invoices back in support. Rama said the policy aims to increase formalization in agriculture and bring the sector closer to European Union standards.

Edi Rama stressed that the real situation in rural areas differs from public perception and highlighted the importance of transparency in agricultural production and sales.

He also said that agricultural cooperatives are expanding across the country, including in Dibër, Malësi e Madhe, Berat, Cërrik, Kolonjë, Pogradec, Durrës, Lushnje, Elbasan, Lezhë, Shkodër, Peqin, Divjakë, and Roskovec.

According to Rama, these “United Agricultural Societies” will reduce costs, increase state support, and strengthen farmers’ negotiating power. He added that small-scale farming alone cannot compete effectively in the European market, making cooperation essential for future development.
