Rama: Culture of Impunity Is Over in Albania, No One Is Above the Law

Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Tuesday that Albania had ended its culture of impunity and that no one stood above the law. He made the statement in Luxembourg after the 10th Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference.

Asked by The Kyiv Independent about investigations into senior officials, Rama said the justice system was working and pursuing its duties.

“When we began this journey, people knew Albania as the homeland of impunity,” Rama said. He argued that the country had since made significant progress in fighting corruption.

Rama said Albania had moved from a system controlled by corruption to one that actively fights it. He linked these changes to the country’s EU accession progress and the provisional closure of another negotiating chapter.

He added that the reforms gave his government the motivation to keep moving forward and advance Albania’s path towards EU membership.
