Prime Minister Edi Rama described the planned Zvërnec project in Vlora as one of the largest tourism investments in Europe. He said the project will play a key role in Albania’s economic development.
Speaking at the Socialist Party’s 35th anniversary event in Elbasan, Rama highlighted the importance of high-end tourism for economic growth. He pointed to examples from other countries in the region, where tourism has contributed significantly to prosperity and development.
Furthermore, Rama said the proposed Zvërnec project is worth around €4 billion. He described it as one of the biggest tourism investments launched in Europe in recent years.
“The project facing resistance in the most absurd way is a €4 billion investment. It is the largest investment in Europe in many years and will serve as a powerful engine for the Albanian economy,” Rama said.
He also defended luxury tourism projects against criticism. According to Rama, luxury resorts and hotels generate economic activity, attract international visitors, and create employment opportunities.
In addition, he stressed that tourism investments increase state revenues through taxes and support broader economic growth.
“Those who say that we do not need luxury tourism do not understand that these resorts and hotels are engines of the economy. They are also the reason the state collects more tax revenue,” Rama stated.
In conclusion, Rama argued that the Zvërnec investment will strengthen Albania’s tourism sector, boost the economy, create jobs, and contribute to long-term national development.
