Prime Minister Edi Rama gave former New York City mayor Eric Adams an Albanian ID card and passport in Tirana. The ceremony took place during the fourth Albanian Diaspora Summit gala evening.
Rama said no one expected the former New York mayor to become a citizen of Tirana and Albania. He handed Adams the documents and joked that he would soon learn Albanian.

He noted that Albanians abroad never removed their country from their hearts. He said he is proud to be American but is now also Albanian.
Adams officially received Albanian citizenship and a passport. President Bajram Begaj signed the decree.Authorities granted citizenship after Adams submitted a request.
