Rama Heads to Armenia to Attend the 8th European Political Community Summit

Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, traveled today to Armenia to participate in the 8th European Political Community Summit, which will take place on Monday, May 4, in the capital Yerevan. The summit aims to foster dialogue and political cooperation to address issues of common interest, as well as to strengthen security, stability, and prosperity across the European continent.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Rama will attend a welcome dinner hosted by the President of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan, and the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan.

This year’s summit will bring together 48 heads of state and government from across the continent under the motto “Building the Future: Unity and Stability in Europe.” Meanwhile, Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney, will attend as a guest, marking the first time a non-European country participates in the meeting.

At a time of profound geopolitical transformations, discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation among European countries, coordinating actions to enhance democratic resilience, and advancing connectivity as well as economic and energy security.

On Monday, at the opening of the summit, Prime Minister Rama and the Albanian delegation will be welcomed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The summit will be co-chaired by the President of the European Council, António Costa, and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

As part of the summit, Prime Minister Rama will also participate in the second informal meeting of the European Coalition Against Drugs, co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Discussions will focus on strengthening the fight against drug trafficking, including maritime trafficking and port-related activities, combating illegal financial flows, money laundering, and corruption, as well as addressing challenges related to synthetic drugs in Europe.

Special attention will be given to a comprehensive approach that includes prevention, treatment, harm reduction, and recovery measures.

Additionally, Prime Minister Rama will take part in a roundtable co-chaired with Finland’s Prime Minister, Petteri Orpo, on the topic “Strengthening Connectivity and Economic Security in the Context of the Green Transition.” This session will discuss concrete measures to enhance connectivity in the energy and digital sectors, as well as to ensure sustainable supply chains while reducing dependencies within the framework of the energy transition.

Participation in this summit confirms Albania’s commitment to being an active actor in European strategic discussions and to contributing to the building of a more sustainable, secure, and united Europe.
