Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke this Friday at Piazza Italia during the Socialist Party’s 35th anniversary celebration, addressing recent developments in Albania, including the ongoing civic protests.
Rama paid special tribute to former Prime Minister and Socialist Party leader Fatos Nano, expressing his enduring respect for him. He also acknowledged that mistakes had been made during his years in government.
Edi Rama: “I would like to single out Fatos Nano, whose successor I became. Despite the fact that in the final years of his life our relationship went through dramatic phases, he remains someone I hold in special esteem. Likewise, I cannot forget the war veterans who gave me strong support, even though they initially welcomed me with skepticism.
I do not claim that I have done everything perfectly, that I have been infallible, or that I have never wronged anyone.
I have made mistakes more than once, and although I never intended to treat anyone unfairly, it is very possible that I have done so unintentionally.
But I am proud that I have given, and will continue to give, the Socialist Party everything that is expected of a leader, and that together we have helped Albania and every Albanian hold their heads high.”
