Rama Highlights “N’Kanu” Agrotourism in Mirditë as a Model of Investing in the Homeland

Agrotourism is becoming an important driver of economic and social development in Albania’s rural areas, creating jobs and strengthening local economies.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared images from the “N’Kanu” agrotourism centre in Perlat, Mirditë, describing it as an example of returning migrants investing in their hometowns and promoting rural tourism.

Rama said that after years abroad, Ermal Dukaj returned to his birthplace and invested in his family’s land and heritage. He transformed a traditional guesthouse, which started operating in 1997, into a modern tourism destination.

With support from the IPARD II programme, “N’Kanu” expanded its accommodation facilities and now welcomes both Albanian and foreign visitors.

Furthermore, Rama highlighted that around 80% of the food supply comes directly from the farm itself. This model provides fresh and authentic products while connecting local production with the visitors’ table.
