Prime Minister Edi Rama said that justice reform and the independence of judicial institutions remain among the Socialist Party’s most important achievements.
Speaking at an event marking the 35th anniversary of the Socialist Party in Tirana, Rama reflected on the period when former Socialist Party leader Fatos Nano was imprisoned. He praised Nano for choosing to promote state-building rather than seeking revenge after his release.
According to Rama, political leaders are remembered not for building roads, but for building strong institutions and a functioning state. He emphasized that this vision has guided the Socialist Party’s efforts over the years.
Furthermore, Rama connected this legacy to Albania’s justice reform and the ongoing effort to strengthen independent institutions. He stressed that the government supports an independent judiciary, even when judicial decisions may appear unfair from a political perspective.
In addition, Rama stated that Albania stands at a crossroads between the past and the future. He underlined that the country’s goal is to secure membership in the European Union for future generations.
Therefore, he argued that achieving this objective requires difficult sacrifices. Rama concluded by saying that an independent justice system is the real sacrifice needed to guarantee a modern European state and strengthen democracy in Albania.
