Prime Minister Edi Rama announced tonight that the special status for military personnel is ready, promising that the long-awaited news for the Armed Forces will follow shortly.

Prime Minister Rama made the statement during the graduation ceremony for 67 new officers from the Officer Preparation Course at the Armed Forces Academy.

Rama assured attendees that the government’s support for military personnel extends well beyond salary increases and professional investments.

“We can finally say that we are on the verge of fulfilling another commitment regarding their status. Everything is ready. It is down to the final round of ‘boxing’ between the Minister of Defense and the Minister of Finance, but as the arbiter, I side with the Minister of Defense. Therefore, we will deliver this long-awaited news to our military members very soon,” Rama emphasized.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that the state undervalued military members for an extended period following rapid historical transitions when public perception mistakenly assumed external allies rendered a national army unnecessary.

Despite those past hardships, Rama praised military members and their families for maintaining continuous service and sacrifice to the homeland.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister highlighted the growing number of young women and men applying to join the Armed Forces, calling it a clear sign of an unstoppable transformation within the military.

Finally, Rama expressed confidence that senior officers retiring from service carry decades of lived sacrifice under the uniform, providing essential mentorship and inspiration to the newest generation of recruits.
