Prime Minister Edi Rama said the courts should handle the case involving former State Intelligence Service (SHISH) chief Vlora Hyseni. Rama also said no security partner has raised concerns about the case.
At a joint press conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Rama said the European Commission views Albania as a serious partner.
“While some people see these developments as a setback, the European Commission sees them as progress,” Rama said. He added that Albania’s justice system has gained greater capacity to fight corruption.
“Until yesterday, corruption was the system. Today, the system itself is fighting corruption,” he said. Meanwhile, Rama said prosecutors and judges should work independently.
“The prosecutors should complete their work without interference. The courts should also work independently. In the end, the process will produce its result,” he said.
