Rama: Our Mission Is to Secure Albania’s EU Membership Without Missing This Historic Moment

Prime Minister Edi Rama said the government and the Socialist Party will continue their mission until Albania completes its accession to the European Union.

Speaking at a meeting with Socialist Party political leaders and parliamentary committee chairs, Rama stated that the country must seize what he described as a decisive moment in its European journey.

“Our mission will continue until we place the flag of Skanderbeg and Ismail Qemali in the courtyard of a united Europe,” Rama said.

Furthermore, he stressed that his priority is not remaining in office but achieving lasting results for the country. He said his main goal is to ensure that Albania does not miss the historic opportunity to finalize its EU membership process.

Rama also highlighted the demanding pace of accession negotiations. He noted that government institutions face a packed agenda of reforms and obligations that require constant attention and swift implementation.

In addition, he argued that the European Union has opened a concrete path for Albania’s membership, creating a unique opportunity that the country must not waste.

The prime minister added that, without the urgency of the EU integration process, he might have stepped away from public office after more than a decade in government leadership.

Moreover, Rama said the Socialist Party had transformed Albania significantly since taking office in 2013. Despite challenges and mistakes, he argued that the country has changed dramatically compared with the situation it faced at that time.

Finally, he described EU membership as the central national objective and reaffirmed his commitment to seeing the process through to completion.
