Rama Says Violence at Protests Was Planned for Months, Claims Evidence Is in Police Hands

Prime Minister Edi Rama has claimed that violence at recent protests in Albania was planned months in advance. He said the State Police now holds information about the people and groups allegedly involved.

In a statement shared on social media, Rama said he had recognised the protesters’ right to demand better conditions. However, he argued that other forces had influenced the demonstrations from the beginning and played a role in their escalation.

According to Rama, authorities have collected information about masks and explosive materials allegedly brought into Albania through customs and by certain entities. He said the State Police is investigating these leads.

Rama also referred to groups he linked to the “ANTIFA” network. He described the network as a source of urban violence and claimed that it operates under the banners of neo-communism, anarchism and anti-capitalism.

Furthermore, Rama alleged that organised crime and foreign forces had financed some participants in the violent incidents. He also accused the opposition Democratic Party of taking responsibility for the violence near the Ministry of Education.

However, these allegations remain claims made by the prime minister. The report does not provide independent evidence to substantiate them or include a response from the groups and parties he accused.
