Rama: “Sophie” Guesthouse in Libohovë Promotes Rural Tourism and Local Products

“Sophie” Guesthouse in Libohovë, Gjirokastër, has received support through the IPARD Programme. The investment has helped develop rural tourism and promote local products.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared images of the guesthouse, which Marika Karanxha runs. The property offers 11 rooms and combines local traditional elements with modern comfort.

Moreover, the guesthouse works with around 15 farming families from the area. Through this partnership, it serves fresh local products and promotes Libohovë’s tourism and gastronomy.

The guesthouse uses locally produced food and highlights traditional cuisine. In this way, it also strengthens the local production chain.

“Sophie” aims to offer visitors more than accommodation. It combines hospitality, local gastronomy and rural life while showcasing Libohovë’s tourism and culinary potential.

Meanwhile, IPARD support has helped rural businesses expand and create new opportunities for the local economy. In particular, the programme connects tourism with agricultural production and agritourism.

As a result, initiatives such as “Sophie” Guesthouse contribute to sustainable rural tourism while giving local producers greater opportunities to reach visitors.
