Rama: We Will Intervene in the Oil Market to Protect Consumers

Prime Minister Edi Rama met with the Socialist Party assembly in Unit 4, Tirana. Rama said the government will act in the oil market through a public company. The goal is to protect consumers and increase transparency.

He added that the legal framework for strategic fuel reserves is also in preparation.

Rama noted that rising oil prices come from both international crises and local market issues, including informality and lack of full control over fuel circulation.

“We face high oil prices caused by the Hormuz Strait crisis and other factors. We will enter the market with a public company to ensure citizens do not pay more than they should,” he said.

Rama also addressed oil marking concessions. He said a new, tamper-proof marker will be introduced within 1–2 months to formalize the market and track oil outside state control.

He discussed transit oil entering Albania, noting some illegally stays in the country. “Our public company, partly owned by the Albanian state and UAE partners, will track all transit oil. This will have a positive impact,” Rama said.

The public company will supply the market and set fair prices based on real exchange rates. Distributors can earn, but excessive profits will be prevented.
