Regional summit focuses on digital services and cybersecurity

Representatives of six Western Balkan countries discussed digital cooperation and alignment with the European Union’s digital agenda at the 8th Regional Digital Summit. Albania has moved most public services online and continues to expand access for citizens living abroad.

Deputy Infrastructure and Energy Minister Enkelejda Muçaj said electronic documents with legal validity have become part of everyday services. She added that the government aims to improve access for Albanians both at home and abroad.

Meanwhile, Muçaj highlighted cybersecurity risks as digital services expand. She said the national cybersecurity agency conducted more than 30 inspections over the past year. It also passively monitors more than 350 other entities and continues to strengthen its capacity.

Regional Cooperation Council Secretary-General Amer Kapetanović said digital transformation can boost productivity and help narrow the economic gap between the Western Balkans and the European Union.

Regional cooperation has already eliminated roaming charges among Western Balkan countries. The next step aims to extend this arrangement to European Union member states.
