TIRANA, August 4 – The Government Commission for Missing Persons announced that authorities found and exhumed the remains of 4 people during excavations in Jabuka e Vogël village, in Zubin Potok Municipality. Initial assessments indicate that the remains may belong to victims of enforced disappearances during the war. Excavation activities continued on August 3, 2026, as part of efforts at suspected mass grave sites in Kalludër and Jabuka. Due to terrain conditions, teams focused on the Jabuka e Vogël location.
The remains were transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for further examinations, including DNA analysis to identify the victims. Meanwhile, the commission said teams will continue assessment work at the suspected mass grave site in Kalludër, where excavations started last week, as well as at other identified locations.
Forensic experts from the Institute of Forensic Medicine carried out the excavations and exhumations with the support of EULEX experts working within the institute. The operation also involved the Kosova Police, security and justice institutions, the Search and Rescue Association and the Government Commission for Missing Persons. The commission reaffirmed its commitment to continue cooperation with local institutions and international partners to clarify the fate of people forcibly disappeared during the war and ensure families learn the fate of their loved ones.
