Roland Sejko’s documentary “Film di Stato” (“State Film”) has been selected as Albania’s entry for the 2027 Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.
The film draws on an extensive collection of archival material. Through historical footage and images, it tells the story of Albania during the communist regime and explores how state propaganda shaped and presented the country’s image.
Moreover, “Film di Stato” places state-produced film and photographic records at the center of its narrative. Sejko puts these materials into a new historical context and examines the relationship between propaganda, power and collective memory.
Roland Sejko, a director and audiovisual archive researcher, has created several documentaries that explore Albanian history through archival material. His work has focused particularly on documenting and reassessing Albania’s film heritage.
Meanwhile, the selection places “Film di Stato” in the international selection process for the 98th Academy Awards. The awards ceremony will take place in 2027.
The films submitted by participating countries will now undergo the selection process conducted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Academy will then determine which films advance to the next stages of the competition.
