“School Sports Teams” Kick Off Tough Matches for Regional Championship

The fourth edition of the “School Sports Teams” project has started. The initiative promotes physical activity and sports in pre-university schools. Matches are underway between schools in every region.

Prime Minister Edi Rama shared highlights from this year’s championship. The event features 608 teams from nine-year schools and high schools nationwide.

Rama noted that talented boys’ and girls’ basketball and volleyball teams faced tough, fair-play matches. Winning teams will represent their region in the regional championship.

In the nine-year school cycle, 158 basketball teams (78 girls, 80 boys) and 226 volleyball teams (114 girls, 112 boys) compete.

In high schools, 73 basketball teams (36 girls, 37 boys) and 151 volleyball teams (77 girls, 74 boys) take part.

The project strengthens sports culture in schools, promotes gender equality, and identifies and develops young talent in each sport.
