Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari has signed an order that changes the age limits for joining the Albanian State Police.
The new rules open more opportunities for applicants. They target young people, experienced professionals and employees from other security institutions.
The decision follows requests from citizens who contacted the minister through social media and direct communication. Many of them want to join the State Police and serve the country.
Under the new rules, candidates up to 35 years old can apply after completing upper secondary education. They can pursue operational roles, including positions in the General Patrol. Applicants must complete the Basic College program.
Candidates up to 35 can also apply for Bachelor’s studies at the Security Academy. They can later join the Police as sub-commissioners.
The order also supports professionals with higher education. Candidates up to 40 years old can apply if they hold a second-cycle university degree in a relevant field. These fields include economics, finance and information technology.
However, they must complete a specialized course for sub-commissioners before joining the Police. Meanwhile, employees from other security institutions will face no age limit. They must meet the required criteria and complete the recruitment procedures.
Lamallari said the new rules create fairer opportunities. They consider education, qualifications and professional experience alongside age.
“This is a fair decision. It gives people equal opportunities based on their commitment and experience,” Lamallari said.
Furthermore, the minister said the Police needs new professionals and fresh experience. He stressed the importance of building a stronger and more professional force.
“Our mission is to create a more professional, stronger and more citizen-oriented Police,” Lamallari said.
