Joshua Volz said the United States is increasing its engagement in the Western Balkans to strengthen energy security and reduce dependence on Russian supplies.
In an interview, he stressed that energy is a matter of national security. He linked it directly to economic growth, investment, and political stability in the region.
He said Russia has repeatedly used energy as a geopolitical tool. Therefore, the US aims to replace “Russian molecules” with alternative energy sources.
Meanwhile, Volz said the US plans to expand energy infrastructure across Southeastern Europe. He added that this will help integrate countries into regional energy corridors.
In addition, he described Kosovo as a key US ally. He said Kosovo urgently needs modernization of its energy system.
He also stated that the US Department of Energy is ready to support cooperation between American companies and Kosovo’s energy sector.
Furthermore, Volz said this support will grow once market conditions become more attractive for US energy investment.
The remarks underline Washington’s goal to deepen energy cooperation and strengthen regional stability in the Western Balkans.
