Six-day blockade: Democratic Party of Kosova demands return to parliamentary process

TIRANA, August 20 – Members of Parliament from the Democratic Party of Kosova continued their blockade of the Government of Kosova for a sixth consecutive day. They protested the failure to resume the constitutive session of the Assembly. MPs from the Alliance for the Future of Kosova also joined Thursday’s action. PDK officials and assembly members from Vushtrria Municipality took part as well. The protesters called for the parliamentary process to resume and Kosova’s institutions to be constituted.

Vlera Tahiri, a Democratic Party of Kosova assembly member from Vushtrria, said the municipality needs investment and development projects. She added that these priorities require functioning institutions. Meanwhile, Democratic Party of Kosova MP Ganimete Musliu said the action would continue until the protesters achieve their demands. She also called on Vetëvendosje Movement leader Albin Kurti to return to the Assembly and enable the institutions to be constituted.

At the same time, Alliance for the Future of Kosova MP Time Kadrijaj called for respect for the Constitution and the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the deadlines for constituting the Assembly. She said no one stands above the law and accused Kurti of interpreting the Constitution according to his interests. Kadrijaj also warned that the protests could become larger if the situation continues.

The Democratic Party of Kosova and the Alliance for the Future of Kosova are calling for the parliamentary process to resume as soon as possible. They want the Assembly fully constituted before Kosova forms its new institutions.
