Skënderbeu Stun Elbasan with Comeback Win as Gvozdenović Reportedly Quits

Skënderbeu claimed their first win of the Albanian Superliga season on Sunday, beating Elbasan 2-1 in the seventh round. Meanwhile, media reports say Elbasan coach Ivan Gvozdenović has resigned following the defeat.

Under coach Julian Ahmataj, the Korçë side overturned an early deficit thanks to Bismark, who scored twice to secure all three points.

Elbasan took the lead in the 41st minute through Mazari after an unintended pass from Nikaj. However, Skënderbeu responded almost immediately, as Bismark equalised moments later.

After the break, Skënderbeu pushed forward in search of a winner. Their pressure paid off in the 78th minute when Bismark struck again to seal the 2-1 victory.

The win takes Skënderbeu to six points, while Elbasan remain on seven.

Meanwhile, reports suggest the defeat could mark the end of Gvozdenović’s tenure at Elbasan. The reasons for his reported departure remain unclear. Just a day before the match, the Serbian coach had expressed optimism about the team’s prospects for improvement.

Gvozdenović had been in charge of Elbasan since December 2024. His contract was due to run until the summer of 2027.
