Sovereign guarantee and financing package to support businesses preparing for EU single market

TIRANA, July 6 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Monday that the government will support businesses as Albania advances toward European Union membership. He spoke during the presentation of a national programme for preparing businesses for EU integration.

Addressing the process, Rama said the government backs enterprises facing the transition to the EU single market. He underlined that the shift remains irreversible and requires adaptation from businesses.

Support from the United Nations Development Programme will shape the programme, he said. International experts will assist companies in building capacity and adjusting to new market conditions.

Turning to small and medium-sized enterprises, Rama described them as a priority for economic growth and job creation. The government will support firms with viable ideas and strong business plans, he said.

The “Double Your Business” programme will introduce a sovereign guarantee and a financing package for expanding companies. The scheme targets businesses aiming to grow, raise standards, and adjust to structural economic change.

Financing will come through the Bank of Albania credit line and agreements with second-tier banks, with low interest rates applied, he said.

Rama added that the government will not impose fixed funding caps. Additional support will follow if needed, he said. Businesses with credible plans will receive financing. Advisory services will help firms prepare applications and business plans.
