The decision comes after six days of protests and clashes in the capital. Prime Minister Edi Rama has expressed his support for State Police officers, while the government has approved funding for their bonuses.
Amid ongoing protests in Tirana, the government approved a fund of 740 million and 80,000 lek on Monday to reward State Police officers.
The decision provides bonuses for 2,750 officers in recognition of their increased involvement in maintaining public order and security. The funding will come from the 2026 state budget reserve.
The decision comes as the State Police continue to manage protests in recent days, which have been marked by violent clashes and damage to public and private property.
During a meeting with senior State Police officials on Monday, Prime Minister Edi Rama expressed his support for officers involved in managing the situation and condemned acts of violence during the protests.
The General Directorate of the State Police will determine the list of eligible officers and oversee the procedures for distributing the bonuses.
The decision takes effect immediately upon approval and will be published in the Official Gazette.
