Student Protests in Tirana: German Embassy Shares EU Delegation’s Statement

The German Embassy has shared the position of the European Union Delegation to Albania regarding the ongoing student protests in Tirana.

The German Embassy has expressed the same position as the EU Delegation, which voiced concern over escalating tensions between law enforcement officers and young protesters and called on all parties to de-escalate the situation.

Full Statement by the EU Delegation:

“We express concern over the violent escalation of the protest in Tirana.

Freedom of assembly and freedom of expression are fundamental rights and core European values. They must be respected and exercised peacefully.

We are aware of allegations of excessive use of force by the police against protesters and journalists.

We expect police actions to be proportionate and to respect fundamental rights, and we also expect these incidents to be investigated as a matter of priority.

We encourage all parties to de-escalate tensions.

Constructive dialogue among all stakeholders involved is the only way forward.”
