Sulejman Delvina was born in Delvina on October 5, 1871. He was a political activist and patriot. He later became prime minister of the government formed by the Congress of Lushnja in 1920.
Delvina began his studies at the Zosimea Gymnasium in Ioannina. He later continued his education in Istanbul. There, he joined Albanian political and national activities. He advocated for the Albanian cause and the rights of Albanians. In 1919, the Albanian community in Istanbul sent him to the Paris Peace Conference. He represented the community and defended Albania’s interests.
In 1920, the Congress of Lushnja elected Delvina prime minister. His government worked to consolidate the foundations of the Albanian state. It also sought to extend state authority across the country and protect Albania’s territorial integrity. During the Vlora War, the government supported efforts to remove Italian troops from Vlora. After the fighting ended, Albania and Italy signed a protocol on August 2, 1920. The agreement covered the withdrawal of Italian troops and respect for Albanian sovereignty.
In 1924, Delvina joined the June Movement. He later served as foreign minister in Fan Noli’s government. After the government fell, he left Albania. He spent several years in Europe as a political emigrant. Delvina returned to Albania in 1928 in poor health. He passed away in Vlora on August 1, 1932.
