Supporting people with autism reflects society’s humanism, says President Begaj

TIRANA, April 2 – President Bajram Begaj highlighted the importance of supporting people with autism spectrum disorder (autism). He said caring for them shows the true humanism of a society.

In a statement today, Begaj emphasized that autism requires attention both socially and from the state. “We must ensure they live with dignity through ongoing support at every stage of life,” he said.

He added that the talents and abilities of people with autism enrich the community. Public institutions and society should recognize these talents and provide opportunities for inclusion, education, and personal growth.

Begaj’s comments come amid broader Albanian initiatives to support children and adults with autism. The government has increased social benefits, expanded care programs, and introduced measures to improve daily life and inclusion. These steps aim to protect rights, support families, and strengthen community networks.

He concluded that caring for people with autism is not only a policy priority but also a reflection of national values. Citizens, institutions, and civil society should work together to create an environment where people with autism can thrive and contribute fully.
