Supreme Court postpones hearings after court files damaged during protests in Tirana

Albania’s Supreme Court has announced the postponement of court hearings, except for urgent cases, following property damage and damage to judicial files caused by a fire during the protests on October 17.

In a public statement issued on October 20, the court said that damage to its premises and infrastructure had disrupted normal judicial operations.

According to the Supreme Court, hearings will remain postponed until inspections of the damage are completed, the condition of judicial files is assessed, and the necessary conditions for resuming operations are restored.

The court has mobilized its staff to address the situation, with priority given to identifying and assessing damaged documents and ensuring the integrity of judicial case files.

The court said that affected parties would be notified individually using their contact details, while new hearing dates would be published on its official website and through other communication channels.

The Supreme Court has called for understanding from litigants and their legal representatives, emphasizing that restoring normal operations will require time and careful attention to ensure that judicial proceedings can resume safely.
