Members of Albania’s parliamentary Committee on Human Rights held meetings in Montenegro with Energy and Mining Minister Admir Šahmanović and European Affairs Minister Maida Gorčević.
Committee Chair Jorida Tabaku discussed stronger bilateral cooperation, focusing on energy, natural gas, energy infrastructure and data centers.
She said Albania should remain a reliable partner for the European Union, the United States and regional countries through long-term cooperation.
Tabaku also called for greater investment in areas where ethnic Albanians live and work in Montenegro. She stressed the need to protect their rights and ensure fair political representation.
During the meeting with Minister Gorčević, the delegation discussed Montenegro’s progress toward EU membership.
Tabaku said Montenegro’s success reflects strong political commitment, consistent reforms and broad institutional cooperation. She added that EU integration should remain a national project rather than the responsibility of one government.
She urged the Albanian government to make the negotiation process more transparent by sharing its agenda, priorities and challenges with the opposition and the public.
Democratic Party parliamentary leader Gazment Bardhi also praised Montenegro’s approach. He said the government regularly discusses the EU agenda with the opposition, parliament and other stakeholders before submitting it to the legislature.
Bardhi stressed that EU integration requires transparency, dialogue and broad political consensus, adding that Albania should follow Montenegro’s example.
