September 29 marks the 90th anniversary of the birth of renowned Albanian writer and screenwriter, and former Culture Minister, Teodor Laço.
Laço was born on September 29, 1936, in the village of Dardhë, Korçë. He studied Agronomy at the University of Tirana. However, his early passion for writing shaped his career.
In 1965, he published his first book, “The Smell of the Earth”, followed three years later by “The House in the Alley”. Laço went on to write dozens of novels, short-story collections, dramas, comedies, film scripts and documentaries, leaving a significant contribution to Albanian literature.
After the 1990s, Laço entered politics. He served as a member of parliament, Minister of Culture and later as an ambassador. He wrote some of his later works in his birthplace, Dardhë.
Teodor Laço died on October 15, 2016.
Among the films that bear Laço’s name as a screenwriter are “The Confrontation”, “The New Shelter”, “The Days That Brought Spring”, “Dorina”, “Our Common Home”, “Nothing Is Forgotten”, “Three Days from a Life”, “And One Day Comes”, “Butterfly in My Cabin”, “The Waiting Years” and the comedy “Rain at the Beach”, among others.
