“Through roots we rise” marks day three of diaspora summit focused on integration and Arbëresh heritage

TIRANA, April 15 – The third day of the 4th Diaspora Summit opened on Wednesday in Tirana with a symbolic event titled “Brotherhood Breakfast.” The gathering brought together representatives of Albania’s religious communities from the country and abroad.

Organisers held the event at the Palace of Congresses. Journalist Monika Stafa moderated the programme. The ceremony opened with Ilir Shaqiri performing “Fjalët e Qiririt” [Words of the Candle]. It continued with joint prayers and blessings for peace, understanding, and prosperity.

Religious leaders from different faiths delivered prayers during the session. The format highlighted Albania’s tradition of religious coexistence. Participants included Islamic, Bektashi, Orthodox, Catholic, and Evangelical representatives.

Among them were Rifat Halili from the Islamic Centre in New York and New Jersey, Bektashi World Leader Edmond Brahimaj, Orthodox Bishop Nikodhim Preston from Boston, Catholic representative Kastriot Idrizi from Brussels, and Evangelical representative Erjon Sylari.

Rifat Halili delivered the main address. He stressed the importance of preserving interfaith harmony as a core Albanian identity value. He also highlighted its relevance for diaspora communities.

Organisers described the “Brotherhood Breakfast” as a moment of unity and solidarity. They said the event reinforced cooperation between religious communities and strengthened ties between Albania and its diaspora.

The programme formed part of the third day of the summit in Tirana. The event gathers Albanian diaspora representatives from around the world. Further sessions are scheduled to continue later in the day, including participation from Prime Minister Edi Rama.
