Authorities will temporarily close the Tirana-Durrës highway in both directions on September 1, 2, and 3, 2026.
The Albanian Road Authority (ARRSH) said the closures will take place at night, from 23:00 to 05:00.
The restrictions will allow crews to continue work on Phase III of the Tirana-Durrës Superstrada expansion project. Workers will install metal beams in the central section of the new Kashar overpass.
Authorities will temporarily divert traffic onto secondary roads.
Heavy vehicles, especially trucks, will face diversions from the capital’s entrance. Vehicles heading toward Rinas, Shkodër, and Kosovo will use the Kashar-Thumanë overpass.
ARRSH urged drivers to plan their routes in advance. It also asked them to follow temporary road signs and traffic instructions.
Tirana–Durrës direction
Drivers will leave the highway through a temporary ramp toward Rinas. They will then continue along the secondary road. Drivers will return to the highway through the Rinas road and the designated ramp toward Durrës.
Heavy vehicles and trucks
Authorities will divert heavy vehicles from the Casa Italia junction. Trucks will then continue along the secondary road.
Durrës–Tirana direction
Drivers will use the Kashar-Thumanë overpass. They will continue along the secondary road on the left side. They will rejoin the highway after the Kashar overpass.
Vehicles heading to Rinas, Shkodër, and Kosovo
Authorities will direct these vehicles at the Kashar-Thumanë overpass. Drivers will then continue toward their respective destinations. ARRSH said temporary traffic signs and personnel will remain in place throughout the works.
