Albania aims to improve its railway network in the coming years. Major projects will strengthen links between Tirana, Durrës, the airport and regional transport corridors. Deputy Infrastructure and Energy Minister Enkelejda Muçaj said the Tirana-Durrës railway and its connection to Tirana International Airport should become operational by that date. She said the Vora-Hani i Hotit and Durrës-Rrogozhinë sections should reach completion by 2030.
Muçaj said the government hopes to meet the target, subject to unforeseen issues. She also pointed to progress with contracting and internal procedures. Meanwhile, Albania is working to meet transport targets in its European Union accession talks. Muçaj said Albania aims to technically close Chapter 14, Transport Policy, by March 2027. She also expects positive consideration from the European Union this year for Chapter 21, Trans-European Networks.
The railway projects support Albania’s plans to integrate with European transport networks and improve national and regional connections.
