Tirana State University enters Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027

For the first time, an Albanian university has entered the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, one of the world’s best-known university rankings.

Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro thanked the academic staff, researchers, students and wider community of Tirana State University for their work to strengthen academic quality, research and internationalisation. She said six other Albanian universities have “Reporter” status in the ranking, which she described as an important step towards inclusion in international rankings.

Tirana State University ranks in the 2001+ group globally. The 2027 edition covers universities from 118 countries and territories.

Kumbaro said the result reflects years of sustained work to improve academic quality, research, institutional development and the university’s international profile. The university has also strengthened its academic capacities, international cooperation and institutional processes.

Meanwhile, Tirana State University has developed a broad portfolio of projects funded by international and national donors. It has participated as both coordinator and partner in projects and programmes including Horizon Europe, Erasmus+ KA2 and INTERREG. These activities have expanded opportunities for research, innovation, academic mobility and international cooperation.
