Tirana to host European Bank for Reconstruction and Development annual meeting in 2028

TIRANA, June 9 – Tirana will host the 2028 annual meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a major international event expected to bring together financial institution leaders, government representatives, investors, and development partners from dozens of countries.

Meanwhile, Deputy Finance Minister Endrit Yzeiraj announced the decision at the conclusion of the bank’s annual meeting in Riga.

According to Yzeiraj, hosting the event reflects Albania’s growing role and progress in the region. He also highlighted the country’s long-standing partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, one of the most active financial institutions supporting Albania’s economic development.

Since 1991, the bank has invested nearly 2.5 billion euros in Albania. The funding has supported strategic projects in infrastructure, energy, the financial sector, and private business development.

In addition, railway modernization remains a key area of cooperation. Investments from the bank and other European financial institutions aim to improve connectivity and strengthen Albania’s integration into European transport networks.

At the same time, more than half of the bank’s portfolio in Albania supports the private sector. The financing helps local businesses increase competitiveness and align with European Union market standards.

Looking ahead, the 2028 annual meeting will provide an important opportunity to promote Tirana and Albania internationally as destinations for investment, business, and economic development.
