Tourist flows increase towards mountain areas, with Theth and Shala River among top destinations

TIRANA, July 8 – During these hot July days, many foreign tourists fill the streets of Shkodër. Their travel gear and backpacks easily identify them as nature and adventure tourism enthusiasts.

Many visitors use Shkodër as a starting point to explore some of northern Albania’s most popular mountain destinations. Meanwhile, tourism operators say that dozens of foreign tourists have been asking for mountain tours and guided trips almost every day for several weeks.

This year, we have many more clients than in previous years. Tourists come from all over the world. Recently, the highest demand has been for visits to Theth,” tourism operator Emiljana Laçi said.

The Albanian Alps National Park, centred around Theth, along with the Shala River, remain the most requested destinations among foreign visitors. Tourists value both the natural landscapes and outdoor activities, as well as local hospitality.

We come from Belgium and we are enjoying a wonderful tour of Albania. We have just returned from Theth and also visited the Shala River and Lake Koman. These are truly amazing places. Besides the beautiful nature, we also liked the hospitality of the people and the reasonable prices,” one tourist said.

Another visitor highlighted the people, hospitality, and mountain areas as the best parts of the trip. She said they had visited Theth and Valbona, describing both destinations as exceptionally beautiful.

Local institutions report that visitor numbers in the mountain destinations of Shkodër Municipality, as well as short-term accommodation bookings in the city, have increased by around 25% compared with the same period last year.
