Tourist Ports Law: EU Delegation in Tirana Reacts to Euronews Albania

The European Union Delegation in Albania has reacted to the recent amendments approved by Parliament to the Law “On Tourist Ports in the Republic of Albania,” in a response to Euronews Albania journalist Eksiola Shehu.

In its official statement, the EU Delegation said it is aware of the developments and that the amendments will be subject to a detailed assessment by the relevant services of the European Union.

According to the response, particular attention will be given to the area of public procurement and the compatibility of these changes with EU legislation, which requires transparent and competitive procedures for awarding concessions, including in the ports sector.

The Delegation also emphasized that the new text appears to include certain provisions related to the Law on Strategic Investors. The latter is a law that Albania is expected to repeal, as part of its commitments under the Reform Agenda and as one of the conditions for closing Chapter 27 in the European integration process.

In conclusion, the EU Delegation underlined that Albania should avoid any steps that may contradict these commitments.
