UEFA Report: Albania Leads Europe in Interest in Football

Albania leads Europe in interest in football, according to the latest UEFA Grow Market Research report. UEFA conducted the study in partnership with Nielsen Sport.

The report shows that 78% of Albanian adults follow football. This figure stands far above the European average of 48%. It also marks a sharp rise from 65% in 2016.

Speaking at the event, Armand Duka, head of the Albanian Football Association, welcomed the findings. He thanked UEFA and Nielsen Sport for their support. He said the study will help the federation shape its future plans.

Duka called the results encouraging. However, he said they also create new responsibilities. Therefore, the federation must continue to improve the game and meet fans’ expectations.

Meanwhile, football remains Albania’s most popular sport. The report shows that 34% of adults and 41% of children play football.

In addition, projects such as “My Jersey” and “My Ball” have boosted participation. Better sports infrastructure has also helped more people engage with the game.

The report also highlights football’s strong reputation. Albanians rated football 7.5 out of 10, making it the country’s most respected sport.

Furthermore, support for the national team continues to grow. Interest has increased from 61% in 2016 to 66% today. Awareness of youth and women’s national teams has also risen significantly.

At the same time, public opinion of the Albanian Football Association has improved. Nearly half of respondents expressed a very positive view of the federation. Its overall rating reached 7 out of 10.

Finally, the report credits this progress to stronger national team performances, better facilities, and continued investment in football development. As a result, football remains Albania’s most followed and most loved sport.
