UNICEF’s Executive Board has approved a new country program for Albania for 2027–2031. UNICEF Albania and the Albanian government jointly developed the program.
The five-year program sets shared priorities and a roadmap to improve children’s well-being, protection and development across the country.
According to UNICEF Albania, the program will focus on three main priorities.
The first is care and protection. It aims to reduce child poverty and exclusion while strengthening child protection systems.
The second focuses on learning and skills. The program seeks to improve educational outcomes and help children develop skills for both life and future employment.
The third priority is governance and accountability for children’s rights.
This area will strengthen data systems, institutions, partnerships and accountability mechanisms. As a result, authorities and partners will be better able to measure progress and deliver concrete results for children.
The new program will also align UNICEF’s work in Albania with the country’s national development priorities and international commitments. These include Albania’s European Union integration process, the Sustainable Development Goals and the protection of children’s rights.
UNICEF Albania said the program aims to ensure that every child in Albania has the opportunity to grow, learn and live in a safe and supportive environment.
At the same time, the program will give particular attention to children in vulnerable situations.
Equality, inclusion, stronger systems, innovation and partnerships will remain at the heart of UNICEF’s efforts. Through these priorities, the organization aims to support lasting improvements in the lives and opportunities of children across Albania over the next five years.
