The United States State Department congratulated Albania on joining the Artemis Accords for the peaceful exploration and use of space, according to state.gov. Albania became the 73rd country to sign the accords, confirming its commitment to the peaceful exploration and use of space.
Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha signed the accords on behalf of Albania on September 21, 2026. NASA Deputy Administrator Matt Anderson and State Department Deputy Assistant Secretary Connor Tomlinson attended the signing ceremony at NASA’s Mary W. Jackson Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Meanwhile, the State Department described Albania as one of the United States’ most steadfast allies. It said Albania continued to closely align its positions with the United States on bilateral and global priorities. The United States and 7 other countries established the Artemis Accords in 2020 during President Donald Trump’s first term. The accords provide practical principles for responsible space exploration.
Albania joined the United States and other nations in reaffirming the accords’ principles for sustainable civilian activities in space. The State Department and NASA lead United States efforts to promote and implement the accords.
