Ura e Kamarës is a historic medieval bridge located near the village of Mirakë, along the Elbasan–Librazhd national road.
To reach it, visitors follow the old Egnatia Road and pass through a narrow village path. Then they arrive at the bridge site.
The bridge measures about 40 meters in length and 3.5 meters in width. It spans the area with a strong and stable structure.
According to historians, the bridge was built around 1714. In addition, a stone inscription found in a niche mentions a benefactor from Elbasan named Ahmeti.
The inscription expresses a blessing and asks travelers to pray for the bridge’s builder. As a result, the site also holds spiritual and cultural value.
Despite centuries of river flow and natural pressure, the bridge has remained stable. It has not suffered major damage.
Moreover, the structure features three asymmetrical arches with different construction styles. The main arch has a span of 23 meters, while the right arch has a semi-circular shape.
Between the arches, builders created small discharge openings shaped like boats. These elements reflect advanced craftsmanship for the period.
Today, local residents of Mirakë preserve the bridge. They also share its history with visitors.
In recent years, tourism in the Shkumbin Valley has increased. Therefore, more visitors now come to see Ura e Kamarës.
Furthermore, locals preserve an oral tradition about its construction. They say a ritual sacrifice took place under a fig tree during the building of the bridge.
Remarkably, the fig tree still exists today. Villagers continue to protect it as a sacred symbol linked to the bridge’s history.
