Urban development program to support economic growth across municipalities

TIRANA, July 10 – Economy and Innovation Minister Delina Ibrahimaj presented the government’s vision for economic development and entrepreneurship support during the “Urban Renaissance 2.0” event.

She said the new urban development program goes beyond city revitalization. According to Ibrahimaj, it aims to create a development model that supports sustainable economic growth across Albania.

Ibrahimaj noted that the first “Urban Renaissance” program contributed to the country’s development. She added that the new initiative will create more opportunities for citizens and businesses through its economic impact.

Meanwhile, the minister highlighted that Albania’s economy remains largely concentrated in Tirana, which generates around half of the country’s Gross Domestic Product. She said per capita income in the capital stands around 40% above the national average.

Ibrahimaj stressed that the government wants all municipalities to follow the same development pace. The program will focus on activating unused potential, assets and capital at the local level.

She also emphasized the need for stronger financing instruments for public investments and private businesses. Ibrahimaj announced that the new “Double Your Business” instrument will soon support companies with expansion, capacity building and modernization.

In addition, the ministry has launched a new program for startups. Ibrahimaj described them as essential for creating new businesses and supporting innovation across the economy.
