US Embassy Warns Americans as Tirana Protest Turns Violent

The US Embassy in Tirana has urged American citizens to avoid protests and public gatherings after clashes erupted during a demonstration on Durrës Street, near Skanderbeg Square, on Tuesday.

In a security alert, the embassy said the protest had turned violent after demonstrators threw stones. It warned that unrest could spread to nearby streets and government buildings, potentially triggering a stronger police presence, traffic disruptions and road closures.

The embassy has also advised its staff in Tirana to stay away from protests. Meanwhile, it urged American citizens to remain vigilant and prioritise their personal safety.

The advisory recommends monitoring local media, following instructions from local authorities and remaining aware of their surroundings. It also advises citizens to limit distractions in public places, prepare an emergency plan and identify alternative routes.

The embassy further urged Americans to avoid drawing attention to themselves and maintain a low profile as the situation develops.
