US State Department: Albania Remains Target of Cyberattacks from Iran and Russia

Albania continues to face cyberattacks from state-backed actors, including Iran and Russia, according to the latest security report from the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) of the US Department of State.

The report says Albania has also experienced ransomware attacks carried out by cybercriminal groups. In 2026, Iran launched attacks against Albanian government websites and digital systems.

The US State Department warns that state-sponsored cyberattacks can damage critical infrastructure and disrupt public services. Such attacks can create wider consequences at national, regional and global levels.

According to the report, cyber threats can put citizens at risk, affect essential services and increase tensions in certain situations.

Therefore, the US Department of State recommends that citizens and institutions strengthen their cybersecurity measures. These actions can help protect sensitive data and digital systems from potential attacks.
