Vikena Kamenica, for the first time as a director with “Misa a Buenos Aires”

A work not usually seen on the stage of the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Albania, which delicately intertwines Catholic liturgical, sacred music with the sensual sounds of Argentine tango, is also known as a “tango mass.”

“Misa a Buenos Aires” by Martín Palmeri, entirely unique in its kind, has electrified audiences on many world stages—and now, also in Tirana.

A work that, if it were not so distinctive, would hardly have inspired Vikena Kamenica to choose it to bring to the stage for the first time in her role as a director.

Kamenica’s directorial concept—the artist who in every project and presentation has brought a unique artistic style—is expected to deliver an evocative approach where sound and movement merge into a single artistic language. The dancers will move on stage as an extension of the music… drawing us into a spiritual journey, into an artistic experience previously unseen in this form in Tirana.

“Misa a Buenos Aires” by Martín Palmeri will be performed on the TKOBAP stage on April 24–25. Directed by Vikena Kamenica, conducted by Sergio Alapont, with choreography by Enada Hoxha and costumes by Ardi Asllani, the work will bring together the String Orchestra and Ballet Company of TKOBAP, in collaboration with the Kosovo Philharmonic Choir.

In recent announcements published by the theatre, it is also stated that Kamenica will appear as a performer. This will be a surprise element, thoughtfully conceived artistically, which is expected to be revealed only once we are seated there, facing the stage—where the sounds and movements of the “tango mass” begin to immerse us in their magic.
