European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, during her visit to Tirana, held a joint press conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama, where she praised Albania’s progress in the European integration process.
Von der Leyen stressed that Albania is among the frontrunners in the accession process, highlighting the opening of the final negotiation clusters and the closure of the first three chapters in July.
She also noted that Albania is fully aligned with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy.
“It is a great pleasure to be in Tirana. My experience is that Albanians hold Europe in their hearts. You have worked hard to turn Albania’s European dream into reality, so my first message is simple: the goal is within sight. Albania is among the frontrunners in our accession process.
I can make this assessment because I come every year to see the progress. Since last year, Albania has once again made remarkable progress. You have opened the final negotiation clusters, and in July you closed the first three chapters. This is very significant progress, as it shows that Albania is fully aligned with our Common Foreign and Security Policy. In other words, we see the world through the same lens.”
